One judge decides for all

Re: “Birth control decision hurts teens,” by Sharon Grigsby, Wednesday Metro & Business column.

If a parent has a “fundamental right to control and direct the upbringing of his minor children” (the wording suggests women aren’t involved), then why are so many children taken away from their parents? Wasn’t Child Protective Services involved when a mother allowed her child to play alone in a park within walking distance of home?

Should laws be passed based on the religious beliefs and parenting decisions of one judge? Has this judge so little faith in what he teaches his child about sex and abstinence that he imposes draconian law on everyone who might think differently?

Are retailers going to request IDs for condom purchases? Why are there no provisions for unwanted pregnancies and accountability for the male partner who participates in unprotected sex? Why not impose censorship on TV shows like The Bachelor/Bachelorette which may inspire a more open-minded way of thinking and behaving?

Better check those library shelves, too. This law is so out of touch with this century, I feel I’m in a time warp.

Will judge hold parents responsible?

In his ruling eliminating confidential birth control availability to minors, Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk said that Title X violates a parent’s “fundamental right to control and direct the upbringing of his minor children.” Of course with rights come responsibility.
