Hey governor, Disney-bashing won’t work

Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump must give it up with the Disney-bashing. They are not hurting Disney. The parks here in Florida were crowded over the holiday weekend, even in the rain.

“The Little Mermaid” movie pulled in $117.5 million domestically during this weekend’s opening. We are assuming that includes Iowa.

And last year, I personally benefitted from the professionalism of the Disney medical staff and the Reedy Creek Improvement District Emergency Management Team that responded to my cardiac incident at Animal Kingdom. I survived to visit the parks another day.

Gentlemen, please turn your attention to the nation’s real problems and tell us how you would be handling those instead of bashing the Mouse.

Child-welfare laws are next to go

Since Texas was granted statehood, Americans have griped and grumbled about the invasion of immigrants from the southern border. The hue and cry from day one has been, “They are taking our jobs,” yet we continue to take advantage of the cheap labor in nearly every employment sector across our country. This benefits both producers and customers who pay cheaper prices.

Possibly caused by governmental efforts to curb immigration, employers are now desperate to find workers. Restaurants, retail, factories, farms — all are suffering due to the lack of available staff.

For some state governments, the answer is obvious. States are working to gut the child work and welfare laws that...
