Lions fan involved in DK Metcalf incident denies using slurs - The Detroit News

The fan involved in an incident with Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf during Sunday's game at Ford Field has denied using "any racial, misogynistic, or hate-based slur" to prompt the interaction.

Ryan Kennedy, a self-proclaimed Detroit Lions fan, denied using a slur in a statement released Monday afternoon from Head Murphy Law. The CBS broadcast of Sunday's contest — a 29-24 Steelers victory — showed Metcalf reaching into the crowd toward the end of the first half to grab the collar of Kennedy's shirt, say something to him and shove him back, with Metcalf's hand ending up near Kennedy's face.

Metcalf, who was suspended two games by the NFL on Monday, has not directly spoken on the incident.

Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson, on his podcast with former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe, said Sunday night he "got word" on the situation: "Obviously, I'm not condoning putting your hands on a fan or punching a fan, but he did call him a racial slur. He called him the N-word, and he did call his mom a c---," Johnson said. "And I think, with those words being exchanged and the fan saying that, I think that's where the action occurred, where he threw — I think he threw a punch, I'm not sure if he connected or whatever. But he did call him the N-word, and he called his mom a c---."

Johnson said he spoke to "a reliable source who wears No. 4." That is Metcalf's jersey number.
