California would expand the universe of who can bring enforcement lawsuits for wage and hour and employee classification violations under a bill on its way to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
The measure would also invalidate any agreements limiting an employee’s right to sue on behalf of themselves or in a representative action.
The California Labor Federation-backed bill (A.B. 594) would permit all public prosecutors in the state to bring enforcement lawsuits for Labor Code violations. They could do so independently of the state Department of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE).
