Living Wage Coalition holds town hall on raising the state minimum wage - WBAY

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - Leaders of Wisconsin’s Living Wage Coalition hosted a town hall on Wednesday night to talk about the benefits of raising the state minimum wage.

The group says nearly 1/3 of Wisconsin workers are paid less than $20 per hour, but according to MIT’s living wage calculator, $21.88 is the actual hourly wage required for a single adult with no dependents to be able to get by.

“We are currently at the longest time that the minimum wage has not changed since it was first enacted. So that’s pretty shameful, especially as we see costs rising so quickly and so strongly,” says state Representative Lee Snodgrass.

After the coalition launched back in September of 2025, 43 state lawmakers introduced legislation to raise the minimum wage to $20 per hour by 2030 while also tying it to inflation, so it doesn’t lose its value.

They’re now pushing for the new governor, once elected, to sign the bill into law.
