With a government shutdown all but certain, D.C. area bars and restaurants are already announcing deals for federal workers. There are hundreds of thousands of federal employees and contractors across the region who are expected to go without pay for an indeterminate amount of time. The last government shutdown went on for 35 days. The situation will be dire, particularly for furloughed low-wage workers.

Federal workers in need of respite can visit these bars and restaurants for deals that begin once the government shuts down, which is theoretically on Sunday. Most deals operate on an honor system. (We note below if an establishment says they plan to check ID.) DCist/WAMU will periodically update the list as we learn of more discounts for federal workers.

Anyone who shows a federal government ID will get 10% off their entire check. This applies to up to a table of four. The restaurant will increase the percentage off every day the government is shut down. Meaning on Day 2, expect 11% and Day 3, 12% (and so forth).
