London law firm launches $4.25M lawsuit against former client and employee - The London Free Press

A London law firm that represented a former London police officer in a $4-million lawsuit against two women’s advocates is now suing its former client and employee.

Millars Lawyers Professional Corp., a law firm founded by Phillip Millar, has launched a $4.25-million lawsuit against three former staffers: chief operating officer Marcel Marcellin and lawyers John Drake and William Doran.

Drake Law Professional Corp., the law firm Drake founded in 2023 that now employs Marcellin and Doran, and two other companies also are listed as defendants in the lawsuit.

Millars alleges Drake and Marcellin “conspired” to establish a rival practice while still working at the firm, using its confidential and privileged information and resources to help their new venture, according to a statement of claim.

The pair poached employees and clients from Millars Law in violation of their contracts, the lawsuit alleges.

“The defendants’ actions were malicious and intentional, and they constituted a shortcut to success at Drake Law, achieved through the defendants’ betrayal,” the 13-page document alleges.

The defendants filed a notice of intent to defend but haven’t yet responded to the allegations with a statement of defence. Statements of claim and defence include allegations not tested in court.

A lawyer for the defendants called the allegations set out in the statement of claim “baseless.”
