A former Lorain County 911 director has filed a whistleblower lawsuit alleging improper conduct by county officials including Commissioners Matt Lundy and David J. Moore.
“This is an action to vindicate Plaintiff Harry Williamson’s rights to speak freely on matters of public concern without fear of government retaliation,” said the lawsuit filed Jan. 28 at Lorain County Common Pleas Court.
Williamson and Cleveland attorney Brian D. Bardwell filed the complaint against defendants Lundy and Moore, along with former County Administrator Tom Williams, former County Administrator James Cordes, Cleveland attorney Amanda Martinsek and her firm, Ulmer & Berne LLP.
Williamson is seeking a jury trial on claims of whistleblower retaliation, interference with civil rights, wrongful termination, tampering with evidence, spoliation, falsification, intimidation and destruction of public records.
He is seeking various damages including $1,000 per violation of Ohio’s public records law, according to the lawsuit. The case did not yet have the legal responses from the defendants, Bardwell said, and a court hearing likely would be scheduled after they respond.
“The 911 system in Lorain County has been Harry’s primary focus professionally for years and years now,” Bardwell said.
He said he was not aware of any instances of county 911 calls going unanswered due to the county arrangements or Williamson not being allowed to work on the system.
