LOUISIANA (KNOE) - Louisiana has changed how minors obtain work permits, and schools can no longer issue them, according to a notice about the new law.
Louisiana House Bill 232 (2026) restructures the process for employment certificates for minors. The bill was signed by Gov. Jeff Landry on May 11, 2026.
Under the updated process, the authority to issue employment certificates has shifted from school issuing officers to employers.
What the new process looks like
The new updated steps include the following:
- After a minor accepts a job, the employer provides the Employment Certificate Form.
- The form can be found at laworks.net, according to the notice.
- Once completed, the employer emails the form to [email protected].
- The certificate is considered issued once an email confirmation is received from [email protected], the notice states.
