LTO warns against fake news on agency, HPG operations - Inquirer.net

MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has denied online claims about its operations with the Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group (HPG-PNP), warning the public against misinformation.

The agency debunked the following false claims:

  • LTO and HPG will randomly pull over imported, project, and exotic cars to inspect all importation and tax documents.
  • Authorities will “cross-check engine numbers” and penalize “illegal modifications” such as loud exhausts.
  • The LTO chief has supposedly issued a memo directing HPG to ticket vehicles with tires older than five years, labeling them “not roadworthy.”
  • Vehicle registrations will allegedly be affected by these supposed new rules.

According to the LTO, these claims are not true, adding “no such directive, policy or memo has been issued by LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao.

The agency also reminded the public to avoid sharing unverified information that may cause panic and to verify such claims only from official LTO channels.
