Lunch leaks: How an unattended laptop sparked a scandal at KPMG - AFR

In November 2023, at KPMG’s Sydney office, an internal audit partner announced he was stepping out for lunch. He then allegedly left his laptop unattended.

On that screen is what a whistleblower has described as confidential data about a major client of the firm, commercial property company Dexus. It was allegedly sensitive information that Dexus executives had expressly forbidden KPMG’s external audit team – a strictly separate part of the firm – from using when assembling their bid to win the audit of the company, worth about $2.5 million a year.
