MACC arrests married couple over almost RM2mil false claims - New Straits Times

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested a married couple at their headquarters, here yesterday.

According to MACC sources, the couple was detained on suspicion of making false claims that amounted to almost RM2 million, involving commission payments for a programme recruiting high school students to further their studies at a private university.

The male suspect, who works as a former marketing manager at the university was suspected of conspiring with his wife, who is a housewife, in making false claims between 2015 to 2020.

The source said both suspects were in their 40s where the male suspect was arrested around 11am and his wife, 30 minutes later when she went to the MACC headquarters to give her statement.

The Magistrate Court, here, has ordered a seven-days remand on the couple starting today till Feb 27.

The order was made by Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin this morning.

Putrajaya Federal Territory MACC Director, Azizul Ahmad Sarkawi when contacted confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
