KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) raided the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) office last Monday as part of a probe related to false claims worth almost RM900,000 involving drainage upgrading and flood mitigation projects in Selangor.
Following the raid, several individuals were remanded to assist in the investigation.
Berita Harian was made to understand that MACC obtained fresh leads into the case and that the raid was carried out following the arrest of six individuals on Sept 12.
A news portal today reported that Shah Alam Mayor Zamani Ahmad Mansor confirmed that the MBSA office was raided by the MACC last Monday but did not specify the purpose of the graft agency's presence.
BH had reported that six individuals, including four women aged between 30 and 59 years old, were assisting in the probe for submitting false claims worth almost RM900,000 between 2016 and last year.
Sources said three of them are the chief operating officer, director and accountant of a construction company, who are believed to have conspired to approve payments to two companies involved in drainage upgrading and flood mitigation projects in Selangor when the work was not carried out.
The first project involved drainage upgrading works with a value of over RM250,000 and the flood mitigation project was worth over RM600,000.
Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim confirmed the arrest and said the case was investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
