Macron Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Candace Owens Over False Claims - Букви

Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, along with his wife Brigitte, filed a defamation lawsuit on July 23 against American influencer Candace Owens. She claimed that the First Lady of France was born a man, which sparked widespread media attention.

The lawsuit, filed in the state of Delaware, states that Owens spread “unwarranted, defamatory, and fabricated claims.” The influencer repeatedly made these statements on her podcast and social media platforms. For example, in March 2024, she declared that she was willing to stake “her entire professional reputation” on the fact that Mrs. Macron “is actually a man.”

In one episode of her podcast, Owens commented on the lawsuit, calling it “absurd” and describing the Macrons’ actions as an “obvious, desperate PR strategy.”

“Ms. Owens’ defamation campaign was clearly aimed at harassing and hurting us and our families, as well as drawing attention and publicity to herself.”

The Macrons’ lawyers stated in their declaration that they had repeatedly asked Owens to retract her statements but ultimately decided that the only way to protect their rights was to take legal action.
