Big Muscles Nutrition Pvt Ltd must pay Rahul Shekhawat Rs 1.1 lakh for buying a Rs 1,599 protein powder with harmful ingredients, also reimbursing him Rs 36,409 for lab tests. The powder contained misleading claims, protein-spiking, high sugar, and carbohydrates, causing headaches, acne, bloating, nausea, diarrhoea, and risks of heart issues or liver damage.

MUMBAI: Observing the recent spate of deaths across India attributed to the consumption of substandard health supplements or nutraceutical products, a consumer commission has directed a nutritional supplement firm to pay a Powai-based fitness enthusiast Rs 1.1 lakh who discovered that the Rs 1,599 protein powder he had bought from them online last year contained harmful ingredients.
It deemed as unacceptable the endeavour of the company, Big Muscles Nutrition Pvt Ltd, to artificially inflate the protein content of the product by incorporating unidentified amino acids. Moreover, the product exhibited high levels of sugar and carbohydrates. "...disparity in the contents of the product as brought on record through the lab testing of the said product definitely a cause of concern and adverse effects cannot be ruled out altogether," the commission said.
