Maine DHHS Reminds Homecare Providers of Requirements to Submit Claims While Still Paying Millions to Suspicious Providers - The Maine Wire
Maine’s Office of Aging and Disability Services (OADS) reminded MaineCare billers on Monday of the requirements for submitting a MaineCare claim while autistic adults continue to suffer under the care of fraudulent providers.
The memo was directed toward MaineCare billers for Sections 18, 20, 21, and 29, which include billing for homecare services for adults with autism and other disabilities.
It reminds providers that all MaineCare claims must include documentation clearly showing the specific service provided, the need and goal addressed by the service, the date of service, the duration of the service, what providers did to support the patient, the name of the individual providing a service, and, when relevant, the location of the service.
The OADS warned providers to avoid billing more than once for services provided during the same time period.
Providers must also ensure that documentation is completed at the time of service.
“Complete, accurate, and timely documentation supports compliance with MaineCare requirements and demonstrates that billed services were delivered as authorized and intended,” said the OADS.
The memo does not make any actual changes to MaineCare billing rules and does not make it more difficult for fraudsters to create false claims while exploiting disabled Mainers.
