Man arrested over false claims about young Moroccan’s disappearance on ferry to Spain - Yabiladi.com

In a new twist in the case of Marouane El Mokadim’s disappearance, security forces in Nador arrested a man last weekend suspected of trying to mislead the family by claiming to have evidence about what happened. His story, however, turned out to be completely fabricated.

Marouane’s brother, Mohamed El Mokadim, told Yabiladi that the suspect contacted them from a Dutch phone number, claiming he had a video showing Marouane being assaulted on the ferry traveling from Beni Ansar port to Motril, Spain. Despite promising a meeting, the suspect never showed up. Instead, he sent someone else to the Tangier port with a CD that was later found to be empty. This led the family to report the matter to the authorities.

Investigations revealed the man does not actually live in the Netherlands as he claimed but only holds legal residency in Turkey, raising further suspicion about his intentions. He was questioned remotely by the Nador primary court on Monday, June 16, and was then detained in Selouane prison while the investigation continues.

Marouane, 19, vanished mysteriously in 2024 while aboard the Armas ferry. Although it’s confirmed he boarded the ship, he never reached Spain. The ferry company has stayed silent, saying the surveillance cameras were not working that night due to a technical issue, deepening the mystery and fueling the family’s and public’s concern.
