The whistleblower whose initial release of club documents and internal correspondence resulted in Premier League charges against Manchester City has spoken out following the club's guilty verdict. Rui Pinto has described the ruling as 'historic' and urged supporters to 'fasten your seat belts'.
The Football Leaks founder feels his actions have been justified after City were found guilty of 114 out of 115 charges relating to breaches of Premier League financial regulations. City have consistently protested their innocence throughout proceedings and plan to lodge an appeal against the verdict.
Pinto is convinced that the outcome of the dispute between City and the Premier League will prove catastrophic for the league leaders.
"A historic decision for English football, and one that comes to crown the work I carried out through Football Leaks," Pinto wrote last week.
He added: "Ironically, I cannot help but remember Pep Guardiola's words at his first press conference as City manager: 'Fasten your seat belts'."
