Man fired in ODOT whistleblower complaint gets $465,000 - KATU

A former Oregon Department of Transportation employee is getting a settlement in a whistleblower complaint tied a glitch in the system that paid state workers.

The state switched payroll systems. Employees had missing paychecks, overpayments and underpayments months after that switch.

KATU reported on the story in 2023.

ODOT fired the whistleblower after he raised alarms about that new system.

He's getting $465,000.

“ODOT employees are encouraged to bring forward ideas for increased efficiency or concerns with current practices," the agency said in part in a statement.

KATU reached out to the state to confirm the payroll issues have been resolved. Affected employees KATU spoke with said the issues were fixed.
