A 37-year-old man found shot to death in a Boca Raton parking lot April 8 was a father, a fiance and an insurance executive embroiled in a bitter legal dispute with his former company.

Arman Motiwalla filed a whistleblower lawsuit in June accusing Innovative Partners, a Coral Springs-based insurance company, of misappropriating funds and firing him for sounding the alarm. Innovative denied the allegations and countersued for $1.2 million, painting its former chief operating officer as a fraudster who exploited his position within the company to enrich himself.

Nine days before the company was due to file evidence in the case, a gunman confronted and shot Motiwalla several times. Boca Raton police found him beside his car in the parking lot of Synergy Insurance Affiliates, where he worked as chief operating officer, at 1:45 a.m.

"He was a force for good," said Greg Robbins, Synergy's CEO. "He was just a loving father and fiance, and he really just wanted to help people. That was the main purpose of his life."
