In July 2025, a jury convicted Torjagbo of one count of bank fraud, two counts of wire fraud, and seven counts of money laundering.
MARIETTA, Ga. — A Marietta man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for PPP loan fraud and filing fraudulent tax returns, according to the Northern District of Georgia U.S. Attorney's Office.
In February 2021, 50-year-old Carl Delano Torjagbo submitted individual tax returns to the IRS using different social security numbers and dates of birth, according to U.S. Attorney Theodore Hertzberg.
Information presented at sentencing shows that Torjagbo falsely claimed he paid over $3 million in tax withholdings and reported bogus losses for his gold-mining business in Ghana, Kremkov Industries.
The false claims led to the issuance of a U.S. Treasury check for almost $3.4 million to Tarjagbo.
Days later, authorities say Tarjagbo signed a PPP loan application requesting $9.5 million, in which he falsely certified that Kremkov Industries operated on February 15, 2020, had almost 500 employees who mainly resided in the U.S., and claimed an average monthly payroll of nearly $4 million.
Court records show that Tarjagbo also submitted fraudulent tax documents and payroll records that listed nearly a dozen celebrities and fictional characters as employees of Kremkov. Those celebrities include Keanu Reeves, Gene Hackman, Charlie Brown, Nancy Drew, John Snow, and Emilia Clarke.
