Man Sentenced to Two Years for False Claims, Disturbances - 조선일보

A person in his 30s who demanded compensation for alleged foreign substances in cup noodles and the absence of meat in stir-fried pork was sentenced to prison in both the first trial and the appellate trial.

The Seoul High Court’s Chuncheon Branch Criminal Division 1 (Judge Lee Eun-hye, presiding) dismissed the appeal of A (38 years old), who was charged with attempted extortion and other offenses, and upheld the original sentence of two years in prison, as announced on the 17th.

A allegedly caused a disturbance for 20 minutes at a mart in October 2024, claiming, “I bought cup noodles in August, and a foreign substance caused abdominal pain requiring hospital treatment. Compensate me for the damage.”

Investigations revealed that A also disrupted business for one hour at a restaurant, demanding, “Three weeks ago, I ordered stir-fried pork, but there was no meat. Either compensate me or remake the dish as I wish.” He was found to have committed similar acts at a beauty salon and another restaurant.

During the first trial, A argued, “I only made legitimate complaints or demanded compensation,” but the court stated, “Given the repeated nature of similar offenses, the risk of recidivism is high,” and imposed a prison sentence.

The appellate court also stated, “We reviewed the claim that the sentence was excessively heavy, but the original judgment was justified.
