Mapo Police Chief Denies Insurrection Sympathy, Threatens Legal Action - 조선일보

Kim Wan-ki, the chief of Seoul’s Mapo Police Station (Superintendent General), stated on the 5th regarding allegations of sympathizing with an insurrection during the December 3rd emergency martial law, “I have full confidence in my innocence,” and added, “We will respond decisively, including legal action, to baseless false claims.”

Chief Kim posted a pop-up window titled “Mapo Police Chief’s Position on Allegations Raised by a Specific YouTuber” on the official Mapo Police Station website that afternoon, refuting, “The claim that I said, ‘I will sympathize with the insurrection,’ is completely untrue.” He added, “The YouTuber filed a complaint against me based solely on their own claims, leading to myself and other involved parties being investigated by authorities and providing detailed statements about the on-site situation.”

Chief Kim emphasized, “As a police officer, I have never acted cowardly or shamefully,” and raised his voice, “At the time, prioritizing the safety of citizens gathered at the scene, I rearranged some of the deployed police officers to the rear to prevent unnecessary clashes, and I have never engaged in any act of sympathizing with the martial law.”
