On July 1, 2023, Maryland Senate Bill 516 (SB 516) takes effect and will permit adults who are 21 years or older to legally possess, home-cultivate, and purchase personal-use quantities of marijuana – up to 1.5 ounces of cannabis flower and/or 12 grams of cannabis concentrates, and up to two mature plants in a private residence.
In November 2022, Maryland voters approved a Marijuana Legalization Amendment to establish regulations governing the production and sale of cannabis to adults which triggered the enactment of House Bill 837 (HB 837) to establish new adult-use possession limits. Maryland Governor Wes Moore approved SB 516 in May 2023.
The percentage of employees in the United States workforce testing positive for marijuana following an on-the-job accident increased to its highest level in 25 years in 2022, according to analysis from Quest Diagnostics, the world’s leading provider of diagnostic information services, a news release from Quest Diagnostics stated.
In 2022, the analysis found that post-accident marijuana positivity of urine drug tests in the general U.S. workforce was 7.3 percent, an increase of 9 percent compared to 6.7 percent in 2021. Post-accident marijuana drug test positivity has increased by 204.2 percent in the 10-year time frame from 2012 to 2022.
