Incumbent Republican lawmaker Matt Hall will face Democratic challenger Justin Mendoza in the fight for the newly drawn 42nd District seat in the Michigan House of Representatives.
The election is Tuesday, Nov. 8, and polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Mendoza said, in survey responses to the League of Women Voters, he is advocacy lead in U.S. Health Policy at Partners in Health. He has a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences and neuroscience from Central Michigan University, and an master’s degree in health policy and regulator affairs from Yale University.
Over his career, Mendoza has worked on legislation in seven states and the federal government. As a coalition leader, he worked on the bipartisan No Surprises Act and the American Rescue Plan Act, Mendoza said.
Hall, who is the current state representative representing District 63, lists under education on his voter survey a bachelor’s degree in business management and public administration from Western Michigan University and a doctoral degree in advanced constitutional advocacy from WMU Cooley Law School.
