The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday rejected claims doing rounds on social media related to India-US trade relations. "Disinformation being spread on X," MEA posted on X along with two photographs of false claims.
One of the false claims said that India is considering suspending or reviewing certain bilateral agreements with the United States while the other said that the govt is reviewing the list of US products exempted in tariffs.
Earlier on Friday, the MEA expressed confidence that the bilateral relationship remains on a positive trajectory, two days after Donald Trump announced 25% tariffs on Indian goods.
In a weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal suggested that the ongoing trade hurdles with US will not impact New Delhi's security partnership with Washington.
"India and the United States share a comprehensive global strategic partnership anchored in shared interests, democratic values, and robust people-to-people ties. This partnership has withstood several transitions and challenges. We remain focused on the substantive agenda that the two countries have committed to and are confident that the relationship will continue to move forward," he said.
