Seoul Medical Group agreed to pay over $62 million to settle claims that it submitted false diagnosis codes for spinal conditions to increase payments from the Medicare Advantage program, the Justice Department announced Wednesday.
According to the DOJ, Seoul Medical Group and its former president Dr. Min Young Cha submitted diagnoses for spinal enthesopathy and sacroiliitis for patients who did not suffer from these conditions, resulting in increased payments from Medicare to the Medicare Advantage plans. Renaissance Imaging, a California-based radiology group that worked with Soul Medical, assisted by creating radiology reports appearing to support the false diagnoses.
