Medicinal cannabis prescriber scrubs false claims but won't notify customers - SBS

An online medicinal cannabis prescriber has admitted it wrongly described its products as approved by Australia's medicines regulator.

But it says it will only "consider" notifying clients about the change.

Medicinal Organic Cannabis Australia (MOCA) had claimed its entire product range was approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), whereas in fact the products it sells, while legal, are unapproved therapeutic goods and have not been assessed by TGA for safety, quality or effectiveness.

Experts have told SBS News the claim is one example of concerns about how medicinal cannabis products are described and marketed to patients.

Earlier this year, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) wrote to the TGA calling for reforms to the way medicinal cannabis is prescribed and regulated.
