Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Call Netflix Report ‘Categorically False’ - Complex

A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is pushing back hard against a new report about their Netflix partnership, calling key claims “categorically false” and disputing suggestions that the streamer was left in the dark about their outside projects.

The response comes after a Variety report alleged that Netflix executives were caught off guard by the couple’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey and raised concerns about communication surrounding Archewell’s broader ventures. The Sussexes’ representative directly rejected that narrative, stating that the idea Netflix was unaware of the interview is “categorically false.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, the spokesperson also addressed claims tied to Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, which was released in January 2023. According to the report, Netflix leadership had concerns about how a book rollout might overlap with the couple’s docuseries Harry & Meghan. That characterization was also denied.

The rep said it was “categorically untrue” that the timing was misrepresented, adding that there had been open coordination with Netflix months in advance.

Further clarifying the working relationship, the spokesperson noted that “Netflix and Archewell had legal counsel involved to oversee the evolution of the deal, as is common practice for any deal changes in Hollywood,” reinforcing that communication between both sides followed standard industry protocols.
