MGM Springfield ‘unequivocally’ denies discrimination, false report allegations - MassLive.com

Representatives of MGM Springfield issued strongly worded statements on Monday denying any wrongdoing in response to a discrimination lawsuit that alleges the casino provided inaccurate diversity hiring reports to the state agency overseeing gaming establishments.

At a meeting with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, which awarded the casino with a sports betting license, MGM Springfield Vice President Gus Kim and attorney Jed Nosal said they denied allegations made in a civil lawsuit filed in November by former MGM employee Chelan Brown.

Kim said he wanted “to categorically state that both of the named defendants, MGM Springfield and [former MGM Springfield President Mike] Mathis unequivocally deny that MGM Springfield filed any falsified reports with MGC or engaged in any unlawful discrimination, harassment or retaliation.”

Attorney Nosal, who has counseled the casino as it pursued the sports betting license, said that MGM Springfield could offer “unequivocal denial of the allegations” made by Brown and would move to dismiss the legal action once they were served the complaint.

Brown filed a civil lawsuit in Hampden Superior Court after making a discrimination complaint with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) in September 2020.

That process took nearly two years to yield a response from MCAD, which had found insufficient evidence of discrimination, but due to a statute of limitations, prevented the commission from looking closely at much of Brown...
