LANSING, Mich. (News 10) - A new online system will soon change how minors in Michigan obtain work permits.
Beginning Oct. 2, young workers and employers will use a single statewide system called the Youth Employment Permit Portal rather than applying through local schools.
The online portal will allow employers and minors to complete the permitting process online at any time. While employers must register with the state to use the platform, the new system does not alter Michigan’s existing youth employment laws or work requirements.
The portal will also allow employers to report when a minor’s employment ends.
