Midterm Elections Live Updates: Obama Campaigns in West and More - The New York Times

With less than a week before Election Day, Democrats are dispatching some of their best-known leaders across the country to campaign for candidates struggling against what appears to be an increasingly red tide.

Here’s what to know:

  • Former President Barack Obama, who remains his party’s star attraction, is scheduled to appear on Wednesday in Arizona, where Senator Mark Kelly is facing a formidable challenge. In Nevada on Tuesday, Mr. Obama delivered forceful closing arguments late Tuesday for Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and Gov. Steve Sisolak, who are both in close contests, while ridiculing Republicans for their fealty to former President Donald J. Trump.

  • The first lady, Jill Biden, will be on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania on Wednesday. She is scheduled to attend an event in Pittsburgh with the American Federation of Teachers president, Randi Weingarten, followed by an event with Representative Susan Wild, a Democratic incumbent in a tough re-election race.

  • Vice President Kamala Harris will campaign for Maura Healey, the Democratic nominee for governor of Massachusetts — an incongruous use of her time so close to the election, since Ms. Healey is overwhelmingly favored to win and there are many more competitive races elsewhere in the country. While in Massachusetts, Ms. Harris will also promote the Inflation Reduction Act at an event in Boston, where she is set to announce more than $13 billion in assistance to lower energy costs for families this winter.
