Migrants Granted UK Asylum Despite Criminal Charges, Whistleblower Reveals - The European Conservative

A whistleblower at the British Home Office has claimed that migrants charged with crimes, including sex offences, are being granted asylum in the UK. According to the insider, staff are pressured to approve claims from individuals who would face sub-12-month sentences if they had committed the crimes in Britain.

The caseworker described being disciplined after refusing asylum to an Afghan man accused of repeated indecent exposure in a children’s play area. Senior managers reportedly insisted that asylum must be granted, citing political persecution claims from Afghanistan, despite the perceived risk to children.

“I was refusing that man because… I believed he posed a threat to children, but he was never going to receive a jail sentence for indecent exposure, he was just getting repeated warnings,” the whistleblower said.

The whistleblower also said applications from certain countries, including Sudan and Eritrea, are fast-tracked with less scrutiny.

The claims come amid an overhaul of the asylum system announced by Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, who admitted the Home Office is “not yet fit for purpose.” Asylum applications in the year to June reached a record 111,000, a 14% increase from the previous year. Migrants arriving by small boat have also surged, with recent figures showing more than 35,000 crossed the English Channel illegally by early October, proving that Starmer’s government has lost control of Britain’s borders.
