Miller is a whistleblower for the people and should be re-elected - lincolnchronicle.org

To the editor:

I live in Waldport, and I’m voting to re-elect Casey Miller to the Lincoln County board of commissioners because he’s shown that he’s willing to stand on his own when it matters.

Most don’t expect county government to be perfect. But we do expect it to answer to we, the taxpaying public — and not just operate behind closed doors, within a small circle of insiders protecting each other.

Casey Miller was elected with 14 years of experience working inside county government. He understood how things were supposed to work, and how they weren’t. So he did something simple, courageous — he started asking questions about decisions, spending, and processes that directly affect taxpayers and public services. But he was met with silence.

Instead of clear answers, he was pushed out. His courthouse office access was restricted. He was silenced when he had every right to speak. His ability to do the job voters elected him to do was limited. That’s not a normal response to oversight. It’s a signal that something in the system doesn’t want to be examined too closely.

When an elected official starts asking questions and the reaction is to shut him down, that should concern all of us who want honest, transparent government. Casey Miller isn’t part of a closed loop that keeps things quiet and comfortable. He’s willing to challenge it, even when it costs him politically and personally.

For me, that integrity matters more than polished messaging or political noise.
