Minimum wage going up in Missouri next year - STLtoday.com

JEFFERSON CITY — Due to the passage three years ago of Proposition B, minimum wage workers in Missouri are poised to receive another raise starting Jan. 1.

The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations said Wednesday the minimum wage in Missouri will increase to $11.15 per hour next year.

The minimum applies to private employers, “except retail and service businesses whose gross annual sales are less than $500,000,” the department said. Public employers aren’t affected by the state’s minimum wage law, according to a news release.

Proposition B, approved in November 2018, raised the minimum wage to $8.60 initially and then mandated four 85-cent increases every year until the minimum reaches $12 in 2023.

Prior to Proposition B’s passage, Missouri’s minimum wage was $7.85 an hour.

The measure’s approval four years ago with 62% of the vote followed legislative wrangling in Jefferson City over St. Louis’ ability to raise its own wage, indepedent of the rest of the state.
