In 2026, several states are raising their minimum wage, while Oklahoma will consider a change with a vote this summer.

Oklahoma's minimum wage has remained the same as the national minimum at $7.25 since 2009.

The vote on June 16, 2026, during the primary will determine if the state will move forward with a slight wage increase all the way through 2029. By raising the minimum wage throughout the state, low-paid workers will have an easier ability to afford necessities like food, housing and medicine.

However, in the meantime, Oklahoma remains behind several other states on the journey to higher pay. Here's what to know about the future of minimum wage in Oklahoma.

Where does Oklahoma's minimum wage rank?

Oklahoma is at the federally mandated $7.25 hourly minimum wage rate, which matches the federal minimum wage, but 34 states in the nation currently pay above that rate.

Oklahoma to vote on minimum wage in 2026

Oklahoma's State Question 832 will be up for a vote on June 16, 2026, during the state's gubernatorial primary election. The question poses the question of whether Oklahoma's minimum wage should increase from $7.25 to $15 by 2029.

For the question to go to a vote, supporters needed to compile at least 92,263 signatures, per state statute. The Secretary of State’s Office officially verified 157,287 signatures in August 2025.
