The Ministry of Employment and Labor conducted labor inspections on 229 small manufacturing companies in industrial complexes nationwide and noted that violations of labor laws were found in 190 companies.
After the fire accident at the primary battery manufacturer Aricell in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, where 23 people lost their lives in a factory fire in June of last year, the government conducted labor inspections for five months. The targeted companies for this labor inspection are business sites with around 50 permanent employees in the industrial complex. Forty-three primary battery manufacturers, including Aricell, were also included.
Among the major legal violations, the most frequent issue was non-payment of wages. A total of 215 violations were found in 118 companies. The total unpaid amount is 1.248 billion won.
Additionally, it was revealed that there were 134 cases of illegal dispatch at 87 corporations. The total number of personnel involved in these illegal dispatches was 884. Most cases involved unauthorized dispatch, where the primary contractor directly commanded and ordered subcontracted workers under a contract between the main and subcontractor. There were also cases of 'dispatch target work violations' where dispatched workers were sent to the manufacturing production process without a valid reason for temporary or intermittent staffing.
