Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has announced felony charges against 17 defendants accused of participating in Medicaid fraud schemes involving more than $450,000 across Missouri.
The cases involve allegations of identity theft, personal care attendant fraud, and improper adult daycare billing. The Attorney General’s Office said the alleged schemes diverted taxpayer money intended to provide services to vulnerable Missourians.
“Anyone who tries to exploit Missouri’s Medicaid program should understand that we will investigate, we will charge, and we will pursue full restitution for the public,” Hanaway said. “Our Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is a powerhouse team that continues to cut off fraud at the source, return stolen funds to taxpayers, and protect services for those who truly need them.”
The Attorney General’s Office detailed several of the alleged schemes.
Check-splitting and kickback scheme
Tania Bonilla is accused of working with Jose Jones, Basilio Delgado Munoz, and Henry Price to conduct nearly three years of fraudulent billing through Jones’ company, Harmony at Home. Authorities allege the scheme resulted in $70,864.15 in claims for services Bonilla did not provide.
Investigators said airline records showed Bonilla was outside Missouri and, on some occasions, outside the United States when services were purportedly provided. The company also allegedly submitted claims for days when Bonilla was hospitalized, including while she was giving birth.
