MOFA condemns ‘false claims’ in China’s policy paper - Taipei Times

  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) yesterday accused China of distorting the truth, after Beijing in a policy paper said “Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory” and that it opposed “Taiwan independence in any form.”

    The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday held a news conference for the release of its paper titled China’s Policy Paper on Latin America and the Caribbean, in which it said that the “one China” principle is the most important foundation and premise for China in the development of its diplomatic relations with other countries.

    “The Chinese government appreciates that the vast majority of LAC [Latin American and Carribean] countries abide by the one China principle, recognize that there is but one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the government of the People’s Republic of China [PRC] is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, [and] oppose ‘Taiwan independence’ in any form,” the paper said.

    Beijing’s false claim that “Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory” and saying it opposes “Taiwan independence in any form” are attempts to distort the truth and mislead the international community, the ministry said.

    The ministry said it expresses its strongest condemnation and rejects the assertions.
