Montclair Names Third Finance Chief Since Whistleblower CFO Left - Montclair Local News

Montclair Township will soon have a new chief financial officer, the third person to hold the role since Montclair’s whistleblowing CFO, Padmaja Rao, left in June.

Peter C. George, who serves as CFO in Pompton Lakes, will start May 5 at a salary of $150,000, according to an offer letter from Township Manager Stephen D. Marks. The Township Council approved the appointment by a 6-1 vote with no public discussion on April 7.

“I wish you success in your new appointment with the township,” Marks wrote.

Council Vote

George’s start date coincides with a public hearing and council vote on Montclair’s $106.8 million budget. The proposed spending plan increases municipal taxes by $141 to $5,692 on the average home assessed at $639,600. This figure doesn’t include school, county and library taxes.

George comes into the role after serving as the financial officer for Pompton Lakes for just over a year and finance specialist for Cranford for nearly three years, according to his LinkedIn profile. Before that, he served as assistant to the CFO in Mahwah and CFO assistant for the borough of Peapack Gladstone, his profile states.

The profile says George holds a chief municipal financial officer certification from Rutgers University – New Brunswick. And he is a graduate of William Paterson University, where he attained a bachelor’s degree in history.
