Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports has stepped in to shut down a wave of misinformation that placed its minister at the center of a fabricated controversy over the country’s ties to Africa.

In a statement issued today, the ministry dismissed widely circulated remarks attributed to Minister Mohamed Saad Berrada as false, after several media outlets and social media pages relayed quotes that quickly sparked debate.

The claims suggested that Morocco does not represent Africa, that the national football team stands apart from the continent, and that the country has no need for African support.

The ministry drew a clear line, saying that none of these statements came from the minister.

Officials stressed that Berrada has not spoken publicly on the issue and has not granted any interviews related to the topic. Every quote linked to him, the statement said, was fabricated and does not reflect either his views or Morocco’s official position.

The ministry reaffirmed Morocco’s place within Africa, not only in geography but in identity and policy. It described the North African country’s ties to the continent as deep-rooted, shaped by shared history, cultural exchange, and human connections.
