In an unexpected decision taken by the Assam Government, Assam Civil Services (ACS) officer Pankaj Chakravarty who acted as a whistleblower and uncovered the multi-crore Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) de-siltation scam leading to the arrest of 14 persons, including several engineers, former Deputy Commissioner of a district and the private owners of a firm involved in the de-siltation work, has been removed from his duties attached with the GMC as the Joint Commissioner.
Mriganka Choudhury has been appointed as the new Joint Commissioner of GMC as Chakravarty, Principal, Assam Survey and Settlement Training Centre has been relieved from his additional charge at the Guwahati Municipal Corporation.
Along with his transfer, there has also been a major reshuffle among the others, simultaneously. Loni Borpatra Gohain has also been posted as GMC Joint Commissioner in place of Satyajyoti Baruah who has been directed to report to the personnel department.
Tulashi Ranjan Kalita has been appointed as the new GMC Collector and Dipshika Saikia has been transferred and directed to report to the personnel department.
It needs to be mentioned that Pankaj Chakravarty conducted an inquiry and checked if the de-siltation process was conducted fairly.
