Mutiny within? Perez whistleblower claims informers are Kern County Democrats - Bakersfield Now

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --- (KBAK/FOX58) Eyewitness News spoke with David Brust Wednesday morning. Brust is making the rounds after his public testimony from an October 8 Kern County Board of Supervisors meeting raised eyebrows.

The longtime Bakersfield citizen journalist accused District V Supervisor Leticia Perez's chief of staff of using Perez's county office for political purposes. Christian Romo, Perez's chief of staff, is also the Chair of the Kern County Democratic Party. Brust claims Kern County Democratic Party Central Committee members leaked to him that Romo used the office for a political meeting. This contradicting from Perez's allegations. On Monday, Perez alleged that Brust worked for fellow Kern County Supervisor David Couch.

"Nobody related to David Couch in any way," Brust said. "The people that reached out to me are actually members of the Democratic Central Committee."

Brust has denied working with a group of individuals Perez claims are out to get her. They include Kim Salas (Perez's political opponent), David Couch (fellow Kern County Supervisor) and Cynthia Zimmer (Kern County District Attorney). Brust is confident that Perez and Romo are guilty of violating the county municipal code. But what if they are not?

"You will see me at the Board of Supervisors meeting and I will apologize for my false allegations," Brust said. 'But I am not wrong."

The next Board of Supervisors meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5.
