MORINDA: Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi told TOI that his 111-day stint has resonated with the masses and he set a new trend of how a CM conducts himself. He alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was trying to hit at his 'aam aadmi' image by peddling lies about the property owned by him. Channi added that Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu had honoured his word of supporting whoever is announced the CM face of the party and that he will implement his Punjab Model.
What sort of impetus has the Congress campaign got with you being named the CM face of the party? Has it also brightened your chances in the two constituencies you are contesting from?
I am observing a one-sided sentiment in favour of Congress at public meetings. People want to vote in Congress again. It is for the first time that I have seen a wedding-like buzz at Congress events. It has pushed the AAP into despair.
Do you think Navjot Singh Sidhu has reconciled to the party's decision?
Yes. He's busy fighting his election. Sunil Jakhar too was with me yesterday. The election is being fought unitedly by the Congress.
But Dr Navjot Kaur (Sidhu's wife) recently commented that Sidhu would have been a better choice (for CM face).
There is no such thing. Everyone has the right to aspire to lead. But only one name had to be announced. We had said beforehand that whoever is named (the CM-pick), the others will support him. Today, Sidhu is with us and so are the others.
