Rep Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the House, told a reporter for a pro-Donald Trump media outlet to “shut up” after she asked Pelosi if she was “liable” for violence at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
“Congresswoman Pelosi, are you at all concerned that the new January 6 committee will find you liable for that day?” asked Alison Steinberg, a correspondent for LindellTV, a website and television channel owned by conspiracy theorist and Trump ally Mike Lindell.
“Why did you refuse the National Guard on January 6?” Steinberg asked, prompting Pelosi to turn, point a finger in Steinberg’s face, and tell her to “shut up.”
“I did not refuse the National Guard, the president didn’t send it! Why are you coming here with Republican talking points as if you’re a serious journalist?” Pelosi added.
“The American people want to know. We still have questions,” Steinberg said.
LindellTV posted the video on X where it was quickly reposted by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, pro-Trump media operatives and politicians, Russian state media, and other far-right websites.
The false claim that Pelosi blocked the National Guard from coming to the Capitol was spread by Republicans in the months after the riot and, despite being debunked, was propagated again in 2024 by Donald Trump, who falsely said Pelosi “turned down” his offer to send “10,000 soldiers or National Guard.”
