“The law provided many facilities, including establishing associations through notification,” Abdel-Khalek stated. Still, he called for reviewing the law for the public good.

Abdel-Khalek’s remarks came on Sunday during the first session of the Committee for Unions and Civil Work within the Political Axis of the National Dialogue.

During the session, Assistant Rapporteur of the Trade Unions and Civil Work Committee, Magdy El-Badawi, emphasized that civil work is essential to sustainable development, achieved through a partnership between the state and the private sector.

"We should discuss the problems of civil organizations," El-Badawi asserted, adding that they played a significant role during the past few years, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

"We aim to define a vision and strategy for developing civil work in Egypt," the rapporteur concluded.

Representatives of various parties and organizations also offered suggestions for amending the law.

Mohammed Haddad, a representative of the Humat Al-Watan Party, stated that while the constitution gave civil associations more freedom to regularize their status, many still need to be able to do so.
