Nebraskans to vote on minimum wage initiative - NTV

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Coming up on the November 8th general elections, Nebraskans are to vote 'yes' or 'no' on raising the state's minimum wage.

By voting "Yes" the voters would be giving their support to the ballot initiative 433, to increase the state's minimum wage from $9 to $15 by 2026 and annually adjust the minimum wage thereafter by the cost of living. By voting "No" the voter would be opposing to this ballot initiative.

If approved by voters, the minimum wage would change to $10.50 on Jan. 1, 2023; $12.00 on Jan. 1, 2024; $13.50 on Jan. 1, 2025; and finally, $15.00 on Jan.1, 2026.

As it is required by law, the Secretary of State, Bob Evnen, is holding public hearings at the three congressional districts for the two ballot initiatives appearing on the ballot for the November 8th general elections, those include the Minimum Wage Increase initiative (433) and the Voter ID initiative (432).

Evnen held the Congressional District 3 public Hearing in North Platte on Thursday. Congressional District 1 hearing will happen in Lincoln on Tuesday, Oct. 18th, (Nebraska State Capitol, Hearing Room 1525). And the Congressional District 2 hearing will happen in Omaha on Tuesday Oct. 11. (The Thompson Alumni Center Bootstrapper Hall).

At the hearing in North Platte, Evnen heard from one person opposing to the Minimum Wage Increase Initiative, and heard from around eight people in favor of the proposed wage increase.
