Netanyahu’s false claims in UN speech on Gaza - Helsinki Times

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came under intense criticism following his address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he rejected committing genocide and vowed to continue the operations in Gaza.

The speech, delivered before delegates at the 80th UNGA, was met with walkouts by several countries in protest at Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza. Netanyahu dismissed a UN Commission of Inquiry’s findings that Israel has committed genocide, saying that evacuation orders prove the opposite.

He also claimed that Hamas bears responsibility for civilian deaths and that Israel is taking extraordinary measures to protect civilians.

The Gaza government and a fact-check by an Al Jazeera journalist have revealed Netanyahu's false claims in the speech. Al Jazeera reports that investigations by +972 Magazine, Local Call and The Guardian revealed that more than 80 percent of those killed in Gaza were civilians, contradicting Netanyahu’s suggestion of a lower ratio. A classified Israeli database cited in the reports listed 8,900 alleged Hamas fighters killed, many marked only as “probably.”

According to Anadolu Ajansi, the Gaza Media Office accused Netanyahu of promoting “eight major lies,” including claims about aid theft, displacement, and international recognition of Palestine.
