New Twitter CEO unlikely to lift Trump ban, experts say - KATV

WASHINGTON (TND) — With a change in leadership at Twitter, critics of the platform’s content moderation policies see an opportunity for change – and a possible opening for former President Donald Trump to return – but the company’s new CEO has sent no signals that he intends to shift direction on that front.

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey announced Monday he was stepping down from the company, turning over control to Parag Agrawal, who had served as chief technology officer since 2017. Agrawal is an engineer and a long-time confidante of Dorsey who has been involved in many major internal initiatives in recent years.

“He’s been my choice for some time given how deeply he understands the company and its needs,” Dorsey said in an email to staff that he posted on Twitter.

Dorsey’s resignation triggered immediate speculation about changes at Twitter and the prospect of a new CEO lifting Trump’s ban. The former president was permanently blocked from the site after a crowd of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, prodded to disrupt the certification of electoral votes by his baseless claims of election fraud.

The outgoing CEO offered no public explanation for leaving, and his replacement has not yet detailed his vision for the platform’s future. Many Republicans celebrated Dorsey’s departure, casting blame on him for a perceived hostility toward conservative views on the site.
