New Zealand Media Company to Compensate PM Ardern's Partner for False Claims - Marketscreener.com

New Zealand media company NZME Ltd. has agreed to pay a confidential sum to the partner of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, settling a dispute about claims published in March.

The radio arm of NZME has apologised and accepts that Ms. Ardern's partner, Clarke Gayford, has never been the subject of criminal charges, according to a statement released by Mr. Gayford on Friday.

NZME spokeswoman Kelly Gunn said Mr. Gayford's statement is also the company's statement. The claims of criminal activity were "based on rumours about Mr Gayford that are baseless lies," the statement said.

NZME is one of the largest media companies in New Zealand, with print publications such as The New Zealand Herald and a business news site BusinessDesk.

The allegations about Mr. Gayford, a reality-TV celebrity in New Zealand, were broadcast on a radio music show and published on its social media.
